Nestled into a rural block in Braidwood, NSW, this double-wide Elsewhere Pod was designed to feel permanent, calm, and deeply connected to the landscape. Built for Rob and Alex, the project reflects a growing shift towards off-grid living that does not compromise on comfort, design, or longevity.
This is an 8m x 4.8m tiny home pod with a generous deck and motorised pergola, designed to support everyday living in a bush setting without disrupting the natural environment.
The brief
Rob and Alex approached Elsewhere Pods with a clear vision. They wanted a high-quality tiny home that felt established rather than temporary, one that could be installed quickly without the long timelines or complexity of a traditional build.
Their priorities were simple and thoughtful.
- A spacious double-wide layout that feels permanent and well-designed
- A strong indoor-outdoor connection through a deck and operable pergola
- A fully off-grid solution with solar and battery storage
- Durable materials suited to a bushfire-prone environment
- Easy integration with existing water and greywater systems
- A future-ready space that could adapt as their needs evolve
From concept to site
The Pod arrived on site in our flat pack system
Like most Elsewhere Pods, the Braidwood build arrived flat-packed. This approach allowed the pod to be transported efficiently despite challenging site access and remote location. The low environmental impact building process ensures that there is minimal disruption to the landscape.
For Rob and Alex, this was key. Their goal was to preserve the natural character of their property while still achieving a premium result.
The flat pack delivery also meant the build could progress quickly once on site, avoiding months of disruption.
Built for off-grid living

The frame of the Elsewhere Pod being setup
This pod was designed to operate fully off the grid. Solar and battery storage were integrated alongside efficient appliances to support comfortable day-to-day living.
The design works with the environment rather than against it. Our structural aluminium ribs, high quality materials and modular design ensure longevity and bushfire resilience.
The pod also integrates seamlessly with existing water and greywater systems on site, ensuring the build feels considered and complete rather than added on.
Indoor outdoor living that works year-round

The pod with most of the wall panels and Bi-fold window setup.
A defining feature of this project is the indoor-outdoor connection. The double-wide layout opens onto a deck that extends the living space into the landscape.
A motorised pergola allows the occupants to control light and shade throughout the day, creating a flexible space that works across seasons. It is a detail that elevates the pod from a simple dwelling to a long-term living environment.
Designed for speed without compromise

The Elsewhere Pods team managed the entire process from concept to completion as a turnkey solution, including any required permits, guiding custom design decisions and specifications, as well as smart site integrations. Even in a rural setting, the build progressed efficiently and with care.
The result is a pod that feels settled and intentional, not rushed.
A future-ready rural home
For Rob and Alex, this project was about creating a space that supports their lifestyle today while remaining flexible for the future.
The eight-metre double-wide pod offers comfort, resilience, and adaptability. It blends into the landscape, operates independently, and delivers a premium living experience without the cost or complexity of a traditional build.
This Braidwood project is a clear example of how modular design, when done properly, can support off-grid living in a way that feels permanent, calm, and genuinely livable.
